Reading challenge 2025: My January 2025 Reads

Kicking Off the Year with a Literary Feast

Every year, I set myself a reading challenge of 60 books, pushing me to read more than I otherwise would. Winter is a great time to curl up and get stuck into a variety of books, and this month has been no exception. Here’s what I read to start off my reading challenge 2025:

January – Reading challenge 2025

  1. Good Material – Dolly Alderton
A witty, heartfelt novel exploring relationships and breakups with Alderton’s signature humour and keen observations. I borrowed this book from a friend after receiving lots of recommendations, and it definitely lived up to the hype.
  2. The Walnut Tree: Women, Violence and the Law – A Hidden History – Kate Morgan
A fascinating and often unsettling deep dive into the legal history of women’s rights and how laws have shaped women’s lives through the ages.
  3. The God of the Woods – Liz Moore
A gripping mystery set in an elite summer camp, blending family drama, secrets, and a slow-burning investigation.
  4. The Drowning Game – Barbara Nickless
A fast-paced thriller with a compelling, resourceful protagonist facing intense danger and unexpected twists.
  5. Listen for the Lie – Amy Tintera
A suspenseful psychological thriller with an narrator that kept me guessing until the very end- perfect for those who love a true crime podcast.
  6. There’s Something About Mira – Sonali Dev
A delightful and heartfelt romance packed with warmth, complex family dynamics, and engaging characters. A book that should definitely be made into a film!
  7. Funny Story – Emily Henry
Another winner from Henry, full of wit, charm, and the kind of contemporary romance that’s both comforting and compelling.
  8. Glamorous Notions – Megan Chance
A gripping historical thriller exploring themes of identity, deception, reinvention, and survival. With its richly drawn characters and tense storytelling, it’s a compelling read for fans of slow-burn suspense and historical intrigue.

Some of these were Amazon Prime First Reads, a little-known perk where you can get one or two free Kindle books each month – I only discovered it recently and have already found some great reads!

January has set the bar high for my reading challenge 2025. I’m always on the lookout for recommendations – what books have you loved recently? Have you read any of these? What books kicked off your year?
