A Cosy Afternoon at Home with By The Pines and Freshly Baked Vegan Cinnamon Buns

There are some scents that instantly make a home feel warmer, and cinnamon is definitely one of them.

I was recently sent one of the Cinnamon Buns candles from By The Pines, and it arrived at exactly the right moment. The kind of week where everything felt a bit grey outside and I was craving that slower, softer feeling at home. I lit it in the kitchen and within minutes the whole room smelt warm, sweet and comforting, like something lovely had been baking in the oven all day.

And in a way, that’s exactly what happened next.

The candle that set the tone

I’m always drawn to candles that feel cosy rather than overpowering, and this one really does sit in that sweet spot. It has that freshly baked, spiced warmth to it, but still feels sweet and calm rather than overly sugary. The sort of scent that makes you want to tidy the kitchen, put on a playlist and settle into a slower pace for the day.

It felt very easy to style in the house too. The packaging is simple and understated, so it works beautifully dotted on a shelf, styled on a sideboard or lit while pottering around at home. It has that small-business feel that always makes something seem a bit more special!

Inspired to bake

Because the scent was so true to life, I ended up leaning fully into it and making a batch of vegan cinnamon buns that same day using the recipe from Minimalist Baker.

It turned into one of those unexpectedly lovely mornings. Candle lit, dough rising, kitchen warm, everything feeling a bit slower and nicer than usual. I know that sounds dramatic for a weekend at home, but sometimes it really is the small things that shift the mood of a day.

There’s something about baking cinnamon buns that feels especially comforting anyway. The smell, the waiting, the icing at the end, the fact that the kitchen looks like a bit of a mess but in a charming way. Paired with the candle, it all felt very intentional in the best way, like creating a little atmosphere rather than just getting through the day.

The kind of home fragrance I actually like

I think what I liked most about this candle is that it smelt exactly like fresh cinnamon buns. Some home scents can feel like an afterthought, but this one really perfected the scent profile.

If you’re someone who likes your home purchases to be a bit different, they have a whole range of unusual fragrances.

A lovely small business find

By The Pines is one of those brands that feels very easy to support. Run by a husband-and-wife team here in the UK, everything is hand-poured in small batches and thoughtfully made, with a real focus on creating atmosphere as much as scent. Their candles use 100% vegan soy wax and high-quality fragrance oils, so they burn cleanly and evenly without the toxins you often get with paraffin alternatives.

The whole brand has this soft, cosy countryside feel to it that really carries through into the scents themselves. They lean into those nostalgic, mood-led fragrances, from warm, bakery-inspired notes to fresher, nature-inspired blends, all designed to make your home feel calmer and more inviting.

The Cinnamon Buns candle was such a fitting choice for me. It ended up becoming the starting point for a slow afternoon of baking, and it genuinely felt like it set the tone for the whole day rather than just being something I lit in the background.

And honestly, anything that leads to homemade vegan cinnamon buns has to be doing something right.
