It’s tucked away in the middle of lush forest, and it felt like we had the whole world to ourselves as we explored the area. The canyon’s walls rise dramatically around a quiet river, and hiking along the edge gave us views that were as serene as they were stunning.
Jon and I spent an entire afternoon wandering the trails, enjoying the peace. We loved finding spots to wild swim on our Norway road trip. It felt like we were on an expedition, even though we were just a couple of travellers soaking in the beauty.

Oldevatnet is a lake straight out of a fantasy novel, with its vivid green waters surrounded by mountains and waterfalls. We were lucky enough to camp at the Olden Camping which offered free kayaks to rent. We rented a canoe for a few hours and paddled across the calm surface, the only sounds being the splash of our oars and the distant call of birds.
We spent most of the time admiring the scenery, sitting in the sun and letting the tranquillity sink in. There’s something so calming about being on the water, especially when you’re surrounded by such breathtaking nature.
10. Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) — The Ultimate Cliffside View
We saved Pulpit Rock for the grand finale on this list. The hike up is a bit strenuous, but the payoff is more than worth it. When we reached the top and saw the massive cliff overlooking Lysefjord, we were speechless. The drop is sheer, and standing near the edge gave us that exhilarating mix of awe and fear. Be careful up there, too many tourists are sure they are invincible on holiday!
