LIVING ROOM STYLE ESSENTIALS
Apart from when you are sleeping in your bedroom, you probably spend more time in your living room than in any other room of your home. Whether you are relaxing or entertaining guests, you want your living room to be comfortable and cosy, so whoever is in it wants to stay there. Regardless of if you are starting to decorate and furnish your living room from scratch, or giving it a complete makeover, hopefully, these few tips will help you to achieve the look you want.
KNOW THE SIZE
Knowing the size of the room you are thinking of improving with is vitally important before you buy anything for it. Nothing will shrink the look of a room quicker than furniture that is too big and has to be climbed over to get from one side of the room to the other. Each piece of furniture should have ample room to walk around without any stumbling and banging into something that could hurt.
HAVE A FOCAL POINT
For decades, the focal point of living rooms was an open fire, and then the television sets took over. It does not need to be either of these though unless you want it to be. It can be anything you want. It will be the first thing peoples eyes fall on when they walk into the room and it could be a large mirror or a piece of art. Once you have your focal point you should decorate the rest of the room around it to give a feeling of being organised rather than the room having been thrown together.
CHOOSE ACCESSORIES WITH CARE
Putting the wrong accessories in your room can ruin everything else you have If you are struggling for ideas of what to do, even choosing the wrong photo frames could be a disaster, although this site has some good ones, that you can’t go wrong with, and it is certainly worth taking a look. You’d be surprised just how much difference the right frame, cushion or trinket can make to the style of the room.
HAVE THE RIGHT LIGHTING
People do not always put enough importance on their lighting but it can change the atmosphere of a room totally. The best way to go is LED fittings as they are so flexible when it comes to levels and shades of illumination. Of course, the more natural light your room has the better, but that is not always possible.
If you would like to be able to soften the tone of your lights without getting up out of your armchair or to turn them on when you are not even in the house, LED lights are the best option.
YOU DO NOT LIVE IN A SHOW HOME
Comfort is the key. You are not living in a show home but somewhere you want to be able to relax and possibly entertain friends and family. Comfort does not come if a visitor is frightened to sit down in case they mess up the position of a cushion. No matter how much effort you have put into the décor of your living room, it should look lived in as well. In reality that is a fact, you are living there and you should never try to hide that fact.
Have fun revamping your living room!
