Part of my new years fitness plan is to get back into my regular running routine. Last year I began jogging, starting with the couch to 5k app and built up to running for 30 minutes. I must admit before using the app I never thought that I would be able to run, let alone enjoy it and miss it when I stopped.
Since it is winter and the days are so short I cannot really run in the dark as it would just be unsafe. I have started, as part of my new years fitness, at a new budget gym called Xercise for Less. They had a deal on for one months free membership, 11 months at £10 per month, no joining fee and a complimentary hamper of snacks. I am going to have to keep myself motivated and make sure I make the most of the years membership, especially if I am wanting to get trim for the wedding.

If you are thinking about getting into exercise or have any new years fitness plans then make sure that you have the right sportswear, otherwise it will just slow down your progress. Good trainers and breathable clothing are key. Initially I wore oversized clothing as I felt more comfortable and less self conscious, but now I realise how silly that was. It made me hot, slowed me down and made me look bigger if anything. Another important item to invest in is a sports bra. They aren’t a crazy price, mine was from Amazon, and immediately I saw improvements in my fitness levels.
Some gadgets that I have found really handy in my fitness journey have been as mentioned the couch to 5k app as well as my fitness pal which I use to keep a food diary. I use Motorola Buds headphones when running and also bought a arm sleeve for my phone from eBay. My Fitbit, which I wrote about here, has also been a great motivator, keeping me on track throughout the day.
